The glossy and seductive Gypsy Tea is a club with attitude. It's 'in' and it knows it. Based in the Flatiron district, it's a two-level affair: an opulent see-and-be-seen bar upstairs, packed with people groomed to the max, and beneath that a dark, heady dance space for serious partying. The DJs know their stuff (house upstairs, hip-hop and rock down below) and on weekends the place is packed. The face control on the door is pretty rigid, which some may find off-putting, but if your night's not complete unless you're surrounded by pretty people and sexy décor, then you'll want to pay this place a visit.

This sprawling oriental-themed club is far from subtle, but that’s part of its appeal. Bold, very red and over fond of Chinese kitsch, it is at least committed to its aesthetic, and the drinks are pretty damn fine. There’s a wide array of sake-based cocktails which should please even picky drinkers – and there’s even sake bottle service, something Susie Wong was the first to offer. Bar food is way above average too with the kitchen manned by the former chef at Ruby Foo’s. The party mood keeps going well into the morning and they even offer their own customized fortune cookies - with slightly more risqué predictions than most.

Australian BBQ, beers, wine, and cocktails? You enter a long, narrow main bar area with sandy tones and bar brick walls. It's packed shoulder-to-hand bag with Alphabet City hipsters, all of them rather easy-on-the-eye and up for drunken banter. A big draw is the cute garden porch out back, open summer and winter, where you can order delights such as barbecue Barrimundi and chill out with cocktails on rustic wood benches.

Vintage 1960 beauty parlour turned theme bar where the theme is. Beauty Bar! Wander into a fragrant, blue rinse set-up and check out hip boys in trainers and shades sip cheap powerful cocktails while designer-clad girls in thigh-high boots have their hair styled under chrome dome hairdryers. Cool beats played by house DJs include an eclectic mix of Cajun and honky-tonk that only adds to the funky, offbeat feel of the place. It's the brainchild of theme bar diva Deb Parker (LA's Beauty Bar is a direct spin-off) and it's still got most of the original furnishings - including vintage salon chairs and kitsch 50s chandeliers. Only a 50s Formica bar counter has replaced the original styling chairs. His 'n' hers beauty products can be purchased in the bathrooms but we say purchase a Margarita from the dashing barman, read some sexually enlightening tips in the glam mags on the table, and check out which girl getting her nails done needs enlightening.

Fisch offers resale hounds even more to love. The well-edited, barely picked-over selection includes Chanel tweed jackets and YSL suits and shirts for men. Hermès handbags are a specialty. Balenciaga bags as well.
